This programme will help students develop research skills in Sports Science. Students will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to do independent research. Students will work with a supervisor to undertake research in their chosen area.

The main requirement of the degree is a dissertation of not more than 60,000 words. Candidates are also required to :
  1. Attend a Research Methodology course
  2. Present a research proposal
  3. Present research progress at candidature defence
  4. Show proof of acceptance for publication (according to the criteria set in the publication guidelines) prior to graduation
In this program, students will be able to :
  1. contribute to professional sports and exercise literature
  2. develop their research skills
  3. network extensively within the industry
  4. build a comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding of sports and exercise sciences
  5. help individuals and teams achieve their potential
Minimum Duration of Study : 2 semesters
Maximum Duration of Study : 8 semesters

  1. Band 5.5 ≥ IELTS Academic.
  2. Score 550 (PBT) / 213 (CBT) / 46 (IBT) in TOEFL.

  5. Grade C ≥ English Language in A Level, Univ. of Cambridge.
  6. Grade C ≥ Cambridge Assessment English: First (FCE).

Pass an English proficiency test approved by the University.

UM offers a course leading to proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia which international students are required to attend before the degree is conferred.
1. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree with CGPA of 3.0 and above in a related programme of study

2. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree with CGPA of 2.7 to 2.99 may be considered if they fulfil at least one of the following criteria :
  1. has work experience in related fields; or
  2. has publications in related fields; or
  3. is a scholarship recipient; or
  4. a graduate of the University of Malaya
  5. a government agency employee
3. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree with CGPA of 2.5 to 2.69 may be considered if they fulfill at least two of the criteria in (ii) (a) to (e) above
